Since then, it has become a regular venue for both domestic and international cricket matches.

The Layout of the Stadium:

The stadium consists of two stands, one on either side of the ground, with seating capacity for 8,000 spectators. On top of these stands are two pavilions which offer additional seating capacity along with VIP rooms and suites. There are also two more sections on either side of the field which provide additional space for players and team staff during matches as well as corporate boxes where sponsors can entertain guests during games.

Tour Plan and Itenary

The Dharamshala Cricket Stadium, officially known as the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium, is an international cricket stadium renowned for its breathtakingly picturesque setting. It's nestled amidst the Dhauladhar mountain range, making it one of the most scenic cricket grounds in the world.

It is located in the city of Dharamshala, in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, India.

Its unique features include:

  • Stunning Backdrop: The majestic, often snow-capped Dhauladhar mountain range forms a spectacular backdrop to the stadium.
  • High Altitude: Situated at an altitude of approximately 1,457 meters (4,780 feet) above sea level, it's one of the highest international cricket stadiums in the world.
  • Tibetan-style Architecture: The stadium's architecture incorporates elements of Tibetan design, reflecting the local culture.
  • Ryegrass Pitch: It was the first cricket ground in India to use ryegrass, which helps maintain the ground during harsh winters.
  • Unobstructed Views: There's no fence in front of the seating area, providing unobstructed views of the match.

The stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 21,200 to 23,000 spectators.

Yes, the Dharamshala Cricket Stadium is generally open for tourists even when there are no matches. Visitors can explore the stadium, take photos, and enjoy the views.

The stadium is usually open for visitors from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily. It is open year-round for visitors.

Generally, there is no entry fee for tourists to visit the stadium when no matches are scheduled. However, this policy can sometimes change, so it's always advisable to check locally or with the HPCA website for the most current information. During matches, tickets are, of course, required.

The best time to visit is from March to June and again from September to November. The weather during these months is pleasant, and the skies are often clear, offering the best views of the mountains. Winters (December-February) can be very cold with snowfall, making it a different, more serene experience but potentially challenging for travel.

  • By Road: It's about 3 km from the Dharamshala city center and easily accessible by taxi or auto-rickshaw. Dharamshala is well-connected by road to major cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, and Shimla via buses and private taxis.

  • By Train: The nearest major broad-gauge railway station is Pathankot Railway Station (PTK), about 85-90 km away. From Pathankot, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Dharamshala.

During non-match days, you can stroll around and enjoy the views. During match days, facilities typically include restrooms, food stalls/cafeterias, and souvenir shops.
