Tour Plan and Itenary
Triund Hill is located in the Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas, approximately 9 kilometers from McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala, in Himachal Pradesh, India.
The Triund trek is generally considered to be of easy to moderate difficulty. The trail is well-defined, but it involves a continuous uphill climb. It's suitable for beginners with a reasonable level of fitness.
The best time to visit Triund is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months. During these periods, the weather is pleasant, and the skies are usually clear, offering stunning views. Avoid the monsoon season (July to August) due to slippery trails and the post-monsoon season (December to February) due to heavy snowfall.
The trek typically takes around 3-5 hours to ascend from McLeod Ganj or Gallu Devi Temple to Triund, and 2-3 hours for the descent. The total duration can vary depending on your pace and the number of stops you make.
While there used to be a few guesthouses, the permanent structures at Triund have been removed due to environmental regulations. Now, the primary accommodation option is camping. You can either carry your own tent or rent one from local vendors in McLeod Ganj or at the starting points of the trek.
Essential items include comfortable trekking shoes, warm clothing (even in summer, evenings can be chilly), a rain jacket or poncho, a headlamp/flashlight, a water bottle, snacks, a basic first-aid kit, and sunscreen. If camping, remember your sleeping bag and tent.
The trail to Triund is well-marked, and many people trek independently. However, if you're a first-time trekker, prefer not to worry about directions, or want to learn more about the local flora and fauna, hiring a local guide is a good option.
Triund offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Dhauladhar mountain range on one side and the Kangra Valley on the other. The sunrise and sunset views from Triund are particularly spectacular.
