The temple is tucked in Chindi village, about 14 km before Karsog town in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh. It is surrounded by apple orchards, pine forests, and Himalayan silence.

The temple is situated at a height of 1,404 metres in Karsog town of Mandi district.

The temple is dedicated to Goddess Chandi, a fierce eight-armed (Ashtabhuji) form of Durga, worshipped here as Chindi Mata, the protector of the valley. She is worshipped alongside Lord Vishnu, whose idol also resides in the sanctum.

What makes this temple stand out is that the map of the temple is believed to have been prepared not by humans, but by ants — hence the name "Chindi." It is believed that the venerated goddess appeared in the dream of a local priest and informed him about a map prepared by an army of ants of a temple that was to be built in the village, and consequently, the shrine came into existence.

March to May (Spring) offers clear skies, wildflowers in bloom, and temperatures between 10–25°C — the best window for trekking and temple exploration, with dry and well-maintained roads. The temple is open year-round.
